Proposed Planning Laws Will Undermine Communities

A Bill has been introduced into NSW Parliament that if passed will mean communities will have fewer services and no say in developments in their neighbourhood. Please assist the campaign to stop these changes.

I was the first resident to address the Public Forum at the first Council meeting under Administrator Dick Perrson. I did not mention the Public Inquiry or the dismissal, but focused on the issue of the threat of genetically-modified crops to agriculture and the environment.

Surf Clubs Sent a Life Saver

An amendment I put up at the recent Council meeting will see the grant for equipment maintenance to each of the four local Surf Life Saving Clubs increased from $3,700 to $10,000. The Surf Life Saving Clubs are an asset to this community and deserve to be supported.

After considering submissions from the community, Port Macquarie – Hastings Council has adopted the Glasshouse venue hire charges and conditions. The overriding principles observed in setting the hire fees for the Glasshouse were equity and community access.

Carbon Neutral Council by 2010

I would like to see Port Macquarie – Hastings Council become carbon neutral by 2010. My recent campaigning led to Council reducing carbon emissions from electricity by 79% through purchasing renewable energy. However, it is now time to go to the next level.

The Minister for Local Government has call a Public Inquiry into Port Macquarie - Hastings Council. A Public Inquiry is not warranted, as there has not been a single substantiated instance of any maladministration, corruption or impropriety.
